Individual Therapy
Individual therapy involves developing a therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist. A process develops in which the focus is on the specific goals, difficulties, and concerns of one individual.

Family and Couples Therapy
Family and Couples therapy focuses on helping couples, parents and children, and individuals. This process involves examining relationships and making appropriate changes within those relationships to improve communication and interactions among couples and families. Depending on the therapeutic approach, sometimes this work is accomplished by examining early patterns and ideas developed which influence how people view current relationships. The goal is to learn how dysfunctional patterns have developed, and discover ways those patterns can be changed. Other approaches focus on making significant changes in the “here and now.” This process is accomplished by discovering solutions to current problems, and is goal-oriented towards behavioral and emotional change.

Child and Adolescent Therapy
New Horizons Behavioral Health, P.C. provides outpatient therapy for children and youth with emotional, behavioral, or mental health difficulties. Therapeutic approaches include talk therapy, art therapy, and play therapy. Often, child therapists work closely with the parent(s) to help create an environment outside of therapy that will facilitate behavior and emotional changes. Sometimes with your consent, it is helpful for your child’s therapist to consult with pediatricians, teachers, and school social workers and psychologists in order to coordinate the best treatment necessary.

Art Therapy
Art therapy is based on the belief that the creative process involved in the making of art is healing and life-enhancing. Through the process of creating and talking about art, one can increase awareness of self, cope with symptoms, stress, and traumatic experiences, enhance cognitive abilities, and enjoy the pleasures of artistic creativity.

Art therapists are professionals trained in both art and therapy and hold a masters degree in art therapy or a related field. Art therapists work with children, adolescents, and adults and provide services to individuals, couples, families, groups, and communities.

Group Therapy
Group psychotherapy, like individual psychotherapy, is intended to help people who would like to improve their ability to cope with difficulties and problems in their lives. But, while in individual therapy the client meets with only one person (the therapist), in group therapy the meeting is with a whole group and one or two therapists. Group therapy focuses on interpersonal interactions, so relationship problems are addressed well in groups. The aim of group psychotherapy is to help with solving emotional difficulties and to encourage the personal development of the participants in the group. The therapist (called conductor, leader or facilitator) chooses people for the group who can benefit from this kind of therapy and those who may have a useful influence on the other members in the group.
